My step son has had to take on some duties with a Kubota 32xx (he is not sure of model) tractor because his father in law recently drowned. A guy was trying to help out the hunting club by mowing all the plots. He ran it out of fuel on the side of a hill. Son put five gallons diesel in tank, and sprayed some part and can get a crank but tractor will not keep running.

Anyone have a good one two three step process I can recommend to him?

Surely there are bleeding ports between the injector pump and the sediment bowl. 5 gallons should be plenty, but you've got to bleed the lines.

If he is using staring fluid (spray) there is a chance of severe piston damage I urge caution.

Locate the fuel injector pump. On it there should be a thumb screw of some sort that can be hand loosened to bleed air from the lines. Loosen it. Crank for a few seconds. It may fire a couple times. Tighten and crank more. Should start. ... Or repeat if not.

Sorry, I have an older Kub. Maybe not identical.

A good meaning uneducated person can ruin the tractor with starting fluid. It sounds as if he is using it. Get the kid something else to do. The damage may already have occurred. Find someone who knows what they are doing. Leave the person who ran it out of fuel off this list.

Amen. But you'd be surprised how many times I've seen people here suggest using starting fluid. I cringe at the thought.

Well the starter fluid sure was a bad idea...just above the injector pump is a round knurled finger/thumb operable bleed screw. open it up, and crank. The engine should run , maybe stumble for a bit but should run.. let it run for about 30 seconds then close the screw. It should continue to run.

Tractor start yet?

It's not hard to loose fuel on a good slope if it is not up.

Never figured out why some Diesels will prime themselves and others won't.

Hope the person cutting knows the dangers of slope cutting!
