My SIL really goes all out for Halloween.
He and his twin have been doing so for some 20 years with complete support from his city burrow.
They even block off the street, provide mounted police crowd control etc.
For years they have had TV coverage as well.
Donations collected all go 100% to Child Wish Foundation with very healthy results.
Most years the take was in low 4 fig range.
They have all sorts of animation, crazy lighting effects and scary scenes.
And, Oh, I contributed to a fair amount of the animation efforts.
BBQ spit motors were a favorite to animate things due to low RPMs and reasonable torque.*
Got so big that the spilled over onto their suburban neighbor's yards, but nobody complained.
Quite a show to watch.
*like open/close a coffin lid, drive a cable over bicycle rims for flying ghosts etc.
They used drainage corrugated pipe to simulate a huge snake in the tree branches etc.
also had smoke machines blowing everywhere.
A real 'haunted house' scene!
Styrofoam would become tombstones with plumber's torch doing the carving.
Sadly, due to COVID they won't continue this year.
Some parents would come daily, some would drop $50.'s in the collection pot.
OH, and he's just as active at Xmas!
