My question has to do with anti freeze. I work on the road most times and have no one to keep the fires burning for me so I need anti freeze to keep the fire box in one piece!, and I was wondering if I need the boiler anti freeze or can I get by with RV anti freeze? were onley taking about being away 2 to 6 weeks.

The right glycol solution with the right inhibitors also prevents corrosion in the system. Your fresh water make up line requires a reduced pressure back flow preventer. They require annual test and certification. You will need to know about air vents and getting air out of your system after draining and filling the system. If you are not a HVAC or boiler technician there is a lot to know to keep out of trouble. Not generally a DYI project.

The RV antifreeze I know about is water and Propylene Glycol. Mixes perfectly with water because it is about 50% water and it stops corrosion. Don't know how high of a temperature it can handle, but it should be fine in a boiler. I use PG in solar systems that get very hot with no trouble at all.

If you use ethylene glycol, be sure it is completely isolated from the drinking system. I wouldn't use a backflow preventer where it connects to the domestic water, but make it a separate system altogether.
