That thing is cable lifted how do they keep it from slamming down once it over centers at the top and then pull it down again?

Looks like it is a finesse thing where the operator has to know exactly when to retract and extend the cables to make it go "over the top" going both directions.

Finesse is clearly required. Notice at 2:12 he misses the inflection point and has to try again.
