I was typing out a response to 2YD about his quote on a 3520 and I got to thinking...mostly because it seems every post I make about pricing says "thats a bit higher then mine"....either I got a smoking deal, pricing has gone up, or the reality is somewhere in between...

Has JD gone up that much in price? Reason I ask is the story on my 3520 was it had been on the lot since Jan (ordered in Dec)...deal was done Mid March and on April 8th the new baby was in my driveway. When I was working the deal before the actual trigger pull, the salesman said to me numerous times that the price I was quoted & we were working on was on the lot machine there and if I didnt get that specific one, the quote would go up drastically...at first I chalked it up to him wanting to apply some B.S. type pressure on me....between then and now pretty much every quote posted IMO has been quite a bit higher then the total price on my machine.. Seriously some guys are just a stones throw away to paying almost as much for an Open Station as I did for my Cabbed machine...

So Before replying to every post for the next 6 months I figured I'd get the scoop on prices...these days EVERYTHING is goin up, with the price of steel & energy going thru the roof...I figure tractor prices are close behind..

I printed a "Build Your Own" for the config I purchased:

on 11/12/2007 @$34,072
on 03/28/2008 @$35,358
on 06/15/2008 @$36,576

Increase is slightly more than 7.3%. One difference is that on 06/15 only the 375 BH is listed on the build site. I have a 447 BH

Good info, I sure forgot to check that and I did go the the configurator and sort of noticed a difference but did not pay a whole bunch of attention to it.

They are just going to keep going up guys...with input prices going through the roof EVERY company we deal with is going up. We have gotten THREE prices increase this year alone from some of our suppliers. Great Plains just went up 10-12% across the board, when you are talking about 12% on a $25,000.00 planter it really adds up! I honestly think part of reason Deere is going to "re-tool" their 4000/5000/6003 line-up this year is to make the price increase pains a little easier (then if they would have to go up on the "current" machines).

EVERYTHING has/is gone up.....except your paycheck:mad: I just hope great financing will be around to help the consumer swallow these "new" prices we are experiencing.

I'm a new guy. No idea a CUT even existed until a month or so ago. I didn't know a SCV from a diverter and I still don't know what WOT is. So as to this post relating to continued reply's on pricing and pricing itself I'll say that the experience of this board is unbelievable and just because your purchase may have been 3, 4 or 7 months ago don't think your opinion doesn't matter. It does because usually there are intangibles in your responses. Whether it be 'overpriced on this' or 'good deal on that' it's all important to me in making my final purchase decision.

Also while I may be looking to get a lower price than any of you it probably isn't going to happen. But at least I've learned here that if I'm in the ballpark, and with a good dealer, I know that's okay since its the nature of the industry.

As to pricing, the fact that prices have gone up over 7% in 7 months means I should get off my *** and go buy my new rig ! That type of information I never would have known had I not just looked at this post since my viewpoint on pricing is only 30-60 days old. That said by using this board's standard measuring stick of 10-15 % back of JD's new increased on-line pricing I know there's still room on my "in-stock" unit but I'll leave that to another thread.

Exactly; someone got a better deal than the OP did too, and just because others may be paying more does not mean that they too aren't getting a good deal. There are a lot of factors I consider just as, or more, important as price, but that is a sliding fulcrum that varies with every buyer. What doesn't help is when people ask if a price is a good deal and are given the "no it isn't because I paid less" response. With our (US) current economic trends, prices aren't likely to go down anytime soon, and thus even the "deals" will cost more.

I've said this before, and I'll say it again...Regardless of final price, the dealer and the support is what really counts. I wouldnt call it the "Nature of the industry" I'd call it nature of the product. Unlike a blender or TV where you have no expectation of service/support you'll want good service and support on a purchase such as this.
Perfect example...

10 hours on my machine....boxblading with it I bent one of the draft links like a Taco...TOTALLY a judgement call as far as warranty, Seriously I only asked them because SWMBO said I should...and to my amazement my dealer got it warrantied.
What really defines a good deal is when you can come home the night of the purchase and feel good about it...Regardless of price, etc..

A big part of what got me on a Deere in the first place is the fact is when I bought my F935 a few years ago off the side of the road, the dealer treated me as if I was a long standing customer who did thousands of dollars of business a week with them and had bought that machine there. I figured if they treated me like that on a machine that "wasnt theirs" they would take care of me and the 3520 I had my eye on....
