I am soliciting quotes from some local contractors for a pole building with the following specs:
24'x24'
10x9' overhead door
36" man door
10'x24' shed on one eve side

I already have a barn where all of my tools are with cement floor, block walls (bottom level) and a machine shed for implements.

The new building will be for storing my pickup truck, one tractor (either the IH Cub Lo Boy or JD425) and probably 2 canoes and 2 kayaks.

The shed will have a shooting bench under it on one end, and I'll park my car under the other end when I arrive at the camp for the weekend.

What do you recommend for placement of the 10x9 overhead door? I don't know whether to put it in the middle of the gable end or on the left side of the gable end (so when the truck is backed in, the drivers side door would open into the open side of the building, not the wall).

I don't really want two doors or a 16'. I like the look of the door in the middle, but...

My fear is that if I put the door in the middle, then I will "loose" space as I will park the truck off to one side, and the tractor off to the other - the middle would always need to be kept open. If the door is off the to the side, then the truck would always be off to the side and all of the other items would fit into the space beside it, but the truck would always have to be pulled out to access these items.

Any suggestions?

Maybe try staking out the outline and try moving the door opening back and forth. Not quite the same as having walls up but it might help you decide. I tried this when I wanted to put in my CC driveway. it wasn't perfect but close:thumbsup:. If everything is there you can try taking this or that out and see if you are going to hit anything, with no walls to bang up.

Put the 10' W door in the center of the gable - it will not look good other wise. Then put a 6' double door (in the side wall where you park the car) can pull your 425 or lo boy out thru those doors then park your car.

Or put the 16' door in the center so you have room for both truck pull in and tractor out (this would be my preference).

I have 24x36 barn with one 8' door in the gable end then another 8' door in the opposite side wall end. You are right the area directly in front of the center door is my "work area" since the tractor and other implements are left and right.

This works for me as this forces me to clean up each project as its done, and pick up all the nails and wood and put it away.
