Early model YM1700
I purchased an overrun clutch from my local tractor supply and the spline has a roll-pin that is designed to go through a hole in the PTO. My old 1700 doesn't have a hole through the PTO. Is there a way to attach the overrun so that it will not come off of the PTO.
If not, I'll have to get a clutch with quick disconnect button that slides on and off of the PTO.

That is odd. My 1700 does have the hole. Are u sure it is not just plugged with something?

i wonder if it had a pto shaft repalcement and those were not drilled.

in any case. if you want to use your current setup.. it's a cobalt drill bit and some cutting oil away from being used as is. :)

I thought the same thing; I thought all shafts had the hole. I took a wire brush and scrubbed the shaft thinking it was crammed with crud, but there certainly isn't one. The easiest thing for me to do is to simply return the clutch for refund and purchase the QD clutch from ASC. They are actually a lot cheaper ($30) than the ones from the tractor supply ($80). Thanks for the replies.

That sounds like the most feasible thing to do. Not many PTO implements use a pin to hold them on anymore. Most all have a quick disconnect pin. Cheaper too!!! Well that is even better.

My 1700 has the hole as well, its been a few years since I installed mine but I have recollection that I had to remove the grease fittings align the fitting holes and the pin went through,

well, If we're taking a pole. My PTO shaft doesn't have the hole

My 2000 does. I also use the old style Overrun Clutch that takes a Pin. since it stays on. No fun adding or removing it.

apparently the ones with no hole are limited to using the type clutch that has the push tab on the side allows for it to slip on and then release the tab and the pin locks into the groove of the PTO shaft, Just as Scotty Dive has described,
