overrunning pto clutch ?

i have problems linning up my pto splines and getting my tiller,brush hog,mower connected.
i have a TYM 353HST. will the overrunning clutch help ?

if so, do i need the 1 3/8 M& F or 1 3/8 x 1 1/8 ?

Recommend making sure the pto and the implement are CLEAN! I've found that a shot of WD40 really helps improve the ease and quickness of the connection.

Doesn't your 353HST have an overrunning clutch already built into the tractor? Sounds to me like you may have mismatched parts or a lot of crud on the spines. Clean the spines, lubricate them and then push hard.

I can only turn my PTO shaft about 5 degrees, or one spline.

this makes it difficult to line up the implement if i am working by myself.

the WD40 does help, but pushing the shaft on and holding the button down is a handfull.

should my PTO Shaft rotate more than just slightly ?

I have found the PTO shaft harder to turn than the actual implement shaft. I agree its crowded in there...hard to see and hard to work. Clean shafts help!

The olnly thing I have to hook to my PTO is a snow blower and it is easier to turn the impeller to align the splines. I attach the shaft to the tractor first.

You probably have a PTO brake that keepings the shaft from turning.
My tractor was the same way. It has independant PTO with a PTO brake. (wouldn't let the shaft turn to hook up implements).
I added a overrunning clutch so I could turn the PTO shaft and hooking up attachments is SO much easier.

With your tiller or brush hog, turn the implement side of the shaft and keep some pressure against the tractor PTO shaft without pushing on the lock button. You will feel a spot when the splines line up, stop turning the implement shaft at this point. Now you can press the lock button (or collar) and slide the shaft all the way on making sure it locks in place. Takes a little practice but this is by far the easiest way.

from the replies can I assume that an ORC would not be needed? Just got a T353 with shuttle shift and 8 hours on it (sold as new). Being totally new to tractors I'm trying to get much needed knowledge and info to become good in "the saddle" and efficient in best utilizing what these tractors have to offer.
