P T O

Please forgive my laziness, that is reading back posts. I'm sure someone has this information at his/her finger tips.
I'm looking at an implement which can be supplied with either of two values, namely a 540 PTO, or 750-900 rpm. 13.5 is the required HP. Each time I read a post concerning this information, I always forget to make a note on my " Owners Manual ".
I have my manual on the desk for a few days, with a pen sitting at the page needed.
Thanks, anyone . Bill

Re: P T O

What is the P T O rating for a Power Trac 422 with a Robin's Engine ?

OR

Of the two ratings quoted, which one would be applicable to the above Power Trac ?

OR

Is there some other answer ?

Thanks Stray, I guess it makes it simpler to ask a question.

Re: P T O

Power-trac tends to under rate the capabilities or their machines.
Your machine is rated by Power–trac PTO- 8 GPM @ 2,500 PSI

assume motor EFFICIENCY is 65%
8 gpm @ 2500 psi. will take about 7.6 horse power
8 gpm @ 3000 psi. will take about 9.1 horse power

Re: P T O

NJBILL, and STRAY

Most new hydraulic circuits are rated at 85% according to my cd on hydraulics. If that is true, then

8 gpm-2500 psi-takes 11.63 hp
8 gpm-3000 psi-takes 13.94 hp

All of the hydraulic pumps working at max. should not exceed the availiable hp from the engine, or one or all the circuits will suffer, or bog down. You could get away using a larger implement on the PTO, but it would not work as well. Even though you have a 25 hp engine, the pump is what limits you to hp availiable. All the pumps are matched so as not to use all available hp. If you use larger pumps or larger wheel motors, there has to be a trade off. I was thinking of upgrading to a larger PTO pump, but in working out the math, it would take most of my hp to run the pump at max. I plan to increase the pump size slightly when I do change over.

JJ and Stray

Many thanks for your input, decision postponed indefinitely while I pursue other avenues.

Re: P T O

What implements were you thinking of using? Perhaps some of them can be modified or scaled down to your PT-422. Let your ideas flow freely, someone just might have an answer.

Re: P T O

Are you wanting to power a 3pt implement with a hydraulic motor?
