I bought my BX24 from the place in Silverdale and saved a little money. Wished I had not. No customer relations or service. I wished I had bought from Jennings. They have been very helpful and I have bought attachments from them. The Silverdale place didn't seem to care about my business.

Just my experience.

Cap-N-Cray,
Wondered about the Sileverdale dealer customer service. Drove by a few weeks ago and someone was picketing on the street outside with a sign that said not to buy here. The person wa still there when I drove buy a couple of days later. Sounds like more than one person is not satisfied with their service.

Silverdale sold me the tractor, and then it was like pulling teeth to get them to sell me attachments. I would ask what was available and they would show me what they had, and then not know the price. Said they would get back to me and nothing. As far as I know they are still looking for a Kubota mulching kit for me for almost 3 years now.

At Jennings ask for Andy, knows a lot and good guy. Tell him I sent you.

I am not connected with them in anyway, other than I buy parts for them and see them at the Puyallup Fair.

If you have any kind of agricultural status on your land you pay no tax in WA or ID.

In CA you can do that. I think you are supposed to fill out a bunch of paperwork and verify, at risk of perjury, fraud, and prosecution, that it is pretty much for ag use only. I think an auditor may occasionally do a spot check. I also have heard of guys who aren't growing anything ag related filling out the paperwork. More risk than I care to take. I'd buy a tractor in OR with no tax and haul it home, like ultrarunner did, but swearing to a bunch of stuff on paper that's real iffy, I can't go there. Perhaps some of the other CA guys who farm can give better facts than the heresay I've picked up. Maybe WA and ID requirements are not as stringent.

I purchased an L3400 from Silverdale with no problems. They were extremely helpful and much less than any dealer in Oregon even with sales tax included.

I moved to an area, Colville, that gets lots of snow and needed a snowblower. Having to clear over 1 1/2 mile of road, I wanted the front mounted blower which requied the mid PTO. You can't put a mid PTO on the L3400 so I sold it.

I purchased an L3240 from Andy at Jennings and couldn't be happier with their service or price. They beat the local guys here and in Spokane by over $5k. By purchasing the tractor over the phone I only had to pay the sales tax rate for our area which was considerably less. Mr. Jennings delivered the tractor to us, about 380 miles away, for $300.

I worked with several people that purchased from Jennings and were extremely delighted with their service.

Good luck.

Thanks all. My conclusions are that I will try Jennings locally first, but sounds like some other local options too. I will consider a cash deal in Oregon as an alternative.

When I was working summers through school many years ago I drove truck and combine on a wheat farm. It was 3000 acres, so from my persepctive my little one acre patch of pasture in the middle of my 15 acre lot is a long ways from a farm. I suppose if I ate either of my wife's Llama's I could claim I was raising meat (but she would be really mad and I doubt they are very tasty). We will have chickens for eggs and a 40 by 50 garden, but still don't think I could claim ag use. Great suggestion though. Might find the applicable form just to see what the requiremnts are.

Just to toss in my 2 cents worth. I bought my L3750 from Mark at Issaquah. He was great to deal with. They happened to have a new 6' Boxblade on the back of the machine when I told them what I was looking to spend. He tossed in the BB for next to nothing and of course a couple of hats. I went back there a couple of months ago looking for a snow blower or Rear blade to move snow when we do get it. The 7' rear blade made more sense because I can use it to move dirt to. Try tossing sod with a snow blower.:confused2:! Anyhow I talked them into paying the sales tax on the blade.

Actually, Llama's not bad. Cooks up white like pork. Didn't tell my wife when we had the llama burger. She didn't find out until about a year later. I may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night.

As for the Ag exemption, you have to make $2K/acre/year on the land to qualify. Also, when you sell, or if you want to remove it from the exemption, you will have to pay the difference in back taxes and penalties for the last 5 years worth of taxes. If you sell it is automatically removed from the exemption invoking the penalties. The buyer will have to apply for their own exemption. Just sat through all the hearings in Olympia on this just last year. A lot of county auditors were claiming that farms did not meet the qualifications for the exemption and were charging the owners for the back taxes and penalties. One farm was being charged over $100K and had less than 90 days left in which to pay. The result was some hearings with the department of revenue and an emergency ruling to clairify what qualified for the exemption. Several legislators related to agriculture showed up to testify.

I bought my Kubota from Andy with Jennings, he was very helpful. He delivered for free to my house and spent a hour or so going over all the attachments and the tractor, and how to attach everything. He gave me a great price, and has been very helpful with any questions I have had. I have bought other items from Jennings since then and have always had great prices and service.

I bought my L3400 from J&I in Olympia. I did go there first and they told me to find the best deal and they would beat it but that did not include Oregon. I decided against going to Oregon in case I needed warranty repairs. Country Tractor in Centrailia is also pretty good. Good luck, Brian
