Page jumps to last post when I visit any thread new or old

I have a problem which seems to be limited to this site. When I visit any thread I am jumped to the last post, this can be pages or the bottom of a single page. When I click on a picture then go back I am sent back to the top of the page, this is very frustating. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to cure this problem. I admit that I am not the most computer savvy person being born about 50 years too early, a teen would probably had this problem nipped in the bud as soon as it started. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

go to your profile & check your general settings - you can modify how to want to view things, what order, etc. I suspect that is the issue, but haven't gone into my profile to check what you can modify.

On this site (which is set differently from most other such sites). when you click on a thread, you go the last unread post. No way to get around it (AFAIK). This was changed to be "normal" at one point during an upgrade (ie: you had to click on a icon to get to the last unread post, clicking on the title took you to the fist post in the thread) but due to the number of people requesting that it be changed to default to the first unread post, it was modified to match the pre-upgrade behavior.

As for the jumping back to the top of the page, assuming that you are using at least Internet Explorer 7, Chrome, Firefox or Safari, middle clicking on a picture or link (or right clicking and clicking on "View in new tab") will open a new tab so you can see the picture, then you can close the tab when you finish. I like to do this as then if someone has several pictures, I can have them all load while I am reading the rest of the post.

Actually the fact that it goes to the first unread post is a very desirable feature, especially in multipage threads, IMO. It is a feature I have admired on this forum and don't see on many others.

I didn't know about the middle-click trick, I will try it immediately!

Yep, that's a winner. It does open the picture underneath the current tab, and of course Ctrl+Tab will toggle through different tabs.

Actually, most forums have an option to do that. Look for an icon such as

to use it.
