Paint for Pipe fence

I am going to be installing some pipe fence/gate next month and was wondering what kind of paint you guys use? Most of the project will be welded before I leave but the rest will be done on-site so the painting will be after it is installed.

Do you use brush/roll on or spray can?

I see a Paint Mitt didn't make the top 3 on your list but you may want to check that option out.

We used to use alkyd enamel industrial white paint when we had a whole bunch of pipe fencing when I was a kid, but we had a lot of it around work painting oilfield couplings.

Does the alkyd enamel help fight/prevent rust?

Not sure about white. I want green and the wife says black.

I looked it up and it says it needs a primer to be corrosion resistant. It worked pretty well considering it was put on some pretty nasty used oilfield pipe, and being white did not help in hiding rust.

OSPHO is a great primer for pipe (google), I've used it allot over the years.

I second the enamel paint and double down on the paint mitts unless you have a spray rig and know how to economically use it (fine tip).

If cost isn't an issue, you can use Rust Bullet and topcoat with whatever color you want.

I have used it for several projects and it is pretty impressive stuff. I think it is a phenolic resin paint. Dries extremely hard and appears to stop rust. I painted part of my box blade with some leftovers and it has sat outside for 2 years. No progression of the rust in the painted areas. The downsides are cost, color and finish. It can't be thinned so it is difficult (impossible) to get a smooth even finish. It also has to be top coated within a certain amount of time or the top coat won't adhere to it. It only comes in a silver/gray color. The automotive version may be thinner, but I'm not sure.

I hate hard work. So up to me everything would be painted before it went into the ground, even if final welding were not done. Then you just have to paint where the welding burns off the paint. Fairly cheap and used a lot in this part of the word is "Cool Cote". It is rubber based and 2 coats will last almost forever. Down side is limited color choice.

Rust Bullet was a bit pricey. But then I have to ask my self how often do I want to mess with painting. With Rust Bullet it can be done once.

$150 per gallon. Not sure how far a gallon will go. I would hate to over buy and have left overs.
