The scam I've seen repeated around here, especially at 24 hour groceries, for some reason, is, "I'm from (any town 1-2 hours away) and my starter/alternator/whatever went out and I got it fixed but now I have no money for gas to get home."

I've offered to take them to get gas and been refused. At that point I usually tell the manager of the place who gets them off the property. I actually had one guy get in my face when I started to talk to one of the carry out guys to have him tell his manager. Unbelieveable gall!

I se lot of that, Ive had people pull up to the shop in an old beater and tell me In trying to get back home my kids are hungry and i have no gas can you spare some change. Ill tell them let me gets some gas out of the barrel or i cant lend it but ill let you work for it and theyll leave. I have some few little meanail jobs that i havent time for like picking up welding rod scraps and scrap metal. It pays good and they just walk away from it. Personally i couldnt bring my self to ask for money.

Me neither; maybe the way we were raised? My dad would have killed me if I'd asked anyone to "give" me anything when I was a kid.

OK, that's it. I'm heading to the shop to make signs and get my work clothes real dirty. Better get a floppy hat, too. Got to pay for the new house the wife bought and 100K per year tax free is a "he double toothpicks" of a lot more that I'm making now. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I had this one run on me at a gas station in New Jeresy just outside of the NY border a few months ago.

"Oh I am so embarrassed you see I am a legal secretary and I work at a law farm on Park avenue in Manhattan and I left my wallet on my desk" .... "could you loan me enough money for gas and tolls, I will show you my license and mail you the money when I get home"

My question is

1. if you forgot your wallet how are you going to show me your license? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

2. not too many people can afford to drive to work in Manhattan and park on Park avenue, (highly unlikely)

3. the legal secretaries I have met didn't dress like 80's new wave chics /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

4. yeah, I just might give you my address /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
