I'm pretty sure this is the dumbest idea anyone has ever had, but ...

I have something like 150# of documents that I have to shred. My paper shredder can handle maybe 5 sheets at a time. Obviously, this project would take 10 - Forevers. No small task for sure.
So - this hairbrained idea crosses my mind: Could one use their wood chipper for this project?

I'm thinking that, with proper paper feed quantity reservations, the wood chipper just might make short work of this project, leaving me with a lot more time to do something more resourceful.

Your opinion please, yeah or nah.

My chipper wouldn't manage it well, but perhaps one of the smaller chipper/shredder units.

I'd lean towards @Oaktree's suggestion.

All the best, Peter

I would check on shredding services or free events that are offered by banks and other businesses. I went to Office Depot when I was settling my son's estate and the cost must have been reasonable since I don't recall what it was.

I don't think a wood chipper will have close enough tolerances to do an effective job and you might get into jamming issues.

I highly doubt this would work (but I wish it would). Tried feeding newspaper through a stand-alone chipper once and no-go.

If you had a place to burn, that would be my choice. But just know, the stacks of paper will burn slow like logs, not just evaporate like tissue.

Short of that, a mobile shredding service would be the next best option, as Doug mentioned.

I’d check around locally for a “shredding day”. Our town has a mobile shredding service come in and does a free shredding day. They do take donations that go to a charity.

Otherwise, fire!

Give them to a crooked politician...they love shredding documents. 😆

I use a burn barrel myself. Takes no time at all. Have a stand alone paper shredder for daily use. Its the huge old tax files i burn after holding time expires
