Hi guys,
We need to do our first lubrication maintenance. We've read the posts on the forum, and also the directions on the grease, and I'm uneasy. For grease we bought Super Tech brand 'multi-duty complex grease'/extreme pressure/hi-temp grease. Base type: lithium complex. Contains: paraffinic oil, mineral oil, lithium soap, plus more. There is a warning on the tube that says IMPORTANT: do not mix greases of different type, use a solvent to remove and clean out all traces of incompatible greases before repacking. HUH? I called Terry, and he said this grease should be fine for both the PT and the mower. Can you all give me a warm fuzzy that I can use this grease without removing whatever power-trac put in there first??? Please? I know I'm being paranoid. Just tell me it's going to be okay. :)

For spray lube we bought Liquid Wrench High-Performance Dry Lubricant. Contents: Hexane, 1-propanol, liquified petroleum gas, PTFE/BN Colloid.

This is all probably no big deal, I just don't want to do anything really stupid to my brand-new baby. Thanks so much in advance for any comments.

I think I would first determine if those are sealed bearings in the mower spindles. If so. they will not need greasing for a long time. However, some people are paranoid about putting in a couple of shots every eight hours or when ever they start to mow. I think you are going to have to figure out this situation on your own because there are a lot of different ideas out there, including my own. Just use logic and good common sense.

I can confirm that Terry said to use lithium based grease.

The mixing comment on the tube refers to mixing greases of different base materials, e.g. aluminium based grease with calcium based grease. Practically speaking, it can be tough to run down the chemistry in a grease, if you didn't buy it. Most of the incompatible greases are not commonly used.

I was taught that, in general, if the colors match, you should be OK.

All the best,

Peter

P.S. The rollover knuckle/bar in the middle of the lift arms has two zerks on it, both need greasing until grease emerges from the ends.
