Parking brake screw up!!!

I hate to admit that I did this but! Okay went out tonight to clear the drive way. Less than 3 hrs on b7800. Working in 2 gear having a great time and I decided to run down the road in 3rd gear. Tractor started to slow down some.
I found that the the emergency brake was on. I'd been clearing snow for 30 minutes with that the brake on. I had set the brake the night before when I was showing the tractor to my dad last night. I'll never set that brake again!! Has anyone else ever done this? I hope I did not damage anything on my tractor.

This is a common mistake. I did this on my B2410HST for about 20 minutes mowing a lawn before I realized I had the parking brake on. No damage was done. I even had the dealer check for damage during the next tractor service. The wet disk brakes are probably less likely to wear from this than if they were dry brakes. After that I would only use the parking brake when stopped on an incline.

My friend who is a tractor novice just bought a B7610. My first bit of advice to him was about not forgetting to disengage the parking brake.

Yep, Rick, that's a dumb thing to do. But haven't we all done it? I know I have. And as with the rest of us, you probably didn't really hurt anything.

The parking brake was probably adjusted a bit on the loose side to start with and this is why you didn’t immediately notice it was engaged. As mentioned, this is a common error for new users. Probably no significant damage done. Try to get used to always using the parking brake as you’d hate to have the tractor roll over some little kid…or even worse…your own foot! Check the manual and adjust the brake such that it’s sufficiently engaged so it will be obvious when you try to use the tractor that it needs to be released. In time, setting the brake will be an automatic motion for you. The worst that could happen is that you shy away from using that brake as a result of this small error of little consequence.

I know my tractor will not budge with the parking brake engaged, the hydro makes a rather loud whine sound.
You obviously did not have it engaged fully. My little Mitsubishi gear tractor with dry brakes won't budge either with the parking brake fully engaged.
Either engage parking brake fully or not at all, it will be easier to notice.

Just about everyone has done this. I have a few times. Always feel stupid afterwards, but no damage done. Did not even have to readjust the brake at the 100 hour maintenance mark even with my repeated gaffes (Brake travel was within recommended margins). Somewhere there is a thread where an industrious TBN member rigged up a brake warning light. So, you see, this is a common problem. No real worries, my friend.

I've done it too with my former BX23. no harm done though. With my B3030 it's nearly impossible to forget the parking brake on because you hear the hydro tranny yelling right away. It happens. Wet brakes are rather foolproof. It's like some kind of initiation. Now that you've done it you're in the club.

I did it twice! then I decided I needed to try to idiot proof it .... since it is/was just a small rod sticking up off the floor - where I missed seeing it - I extended the darn thing so it's in my way when engaged. So far it's worked - hoping I won't become a bigger idiot so as to overcome my idiot proofing.

I dont set mine when the tractor is stopped...because both the rear "impliment" and the FEL are down on the ground......but when its running...I turn on my 4-way flashers...and when I get back in the seat I remember to turn the parking brake off.

You're forgiven, you're new. When you get really good you back out of the garage and take out the garage door with the ROPS with the parking brake on!

As Sully mentioned, I don't even use it anymore. Implements down now, and no more hills, and I have not a need for it. But, yes, we have all done it once or twice. Seems to be a right of passage for B7800 owners.

We have all done things like that in the past I am sure. When I brought my tractor home I had the yard rake on the back of the tractor. I lifted the rake, but it didn't seem like it was going to clear the ground. So I set the brake and got off the tractor to check the clearance.

The minute I got off the trailer the brake let go and the tractor came half way off the trailer and hung up on the rake. Big problem! My son is there so I ask him to get into the truck and I got on the tractor and held the brake as he moved the truck forward. We were lucky and no damage to the tractor or trailer. Naturally, for about a week he told everyone he could about how Dad messed up taking the tractor off from the trailer.

I have attempted to do this a few times. On my L the parking brake is the ratchet thingy on the brake pedal. When I lock it I lock it tight. It'll just about kill the motor if I try to move. But I do like the fact the brake works, seems on older tractors once they break they are never fixed.

I eventually added a parking brake light to remind me to release the brake.

Likewise on my 7610. Now I make it a habit to step on the brake first and then the clutch to start the tractor. The clutch is interlocked and I just made a mental pattern to release the brake everytime, even if its not set.
