Parking Brakes Releasing

Rick,

I tried to adjust mine, but no way to slide it. My bracket has holes only and lines up with the bolts. NO adjustment.

I went ahead an gave my toothed grabber a twist to line it up with the locking bar on the pedal. What a difference. You can't help but get the brake locked up super tight.

Maybe NH deleted the slots on the later models...mine was built in late 2001.

I have always had the same problem.

Currently I hold the parking brake lever up while I stomp on the brake petal. This seems to get enough force on it to engage the lock.

When the teeth are worn off the rachet that holds the brake petal down I am going to remove it and cut a deeper groove in it to hold the brake securely. I will let you all know how this goes when I get around to it.

JTN,

When you have nothing better to do for a 15 minutes...remove the two bolts that hold the parking brake toothed grabber and let it drop down. Take a look at the teeth. If your grabber is anything like mine, you will see that only a small portion of the tooth had actually made contact with the locking bar. This is why I gave mine a twist. Now I have about 100 % of the possible contact.

I hazard to guess that this twist is a bit easier than new teeth.

Thank you everyone for all the information. The pictures are a great help. I had found engaging it with more force, not hitting the step on that side getting down etc. helped with the problem but I was trying to find a way to fix it right. I will try adjusting the bracket and see if that helps, if not I'll see if lining up the locking pawl so it engages better will do the trick.
Thanks again,
Bob
