I am a newbie to posting threads, but have learned much from reading them; so thanks in advance to the many kind and experienced equipment guys/gals for sharing.

I've been reading what I can to understand retrofitting the 3rd SCV for my 4120 loader; and now I'm pretty confused. People talk about using solenoid, electric switch kits (I know there are aftermarket available-in fact have one on my 4310) it has a button on the loader handle and I don't care for it's full on/off and rapid movement. It "breaks" into the circuit to lift the loader and was installed when I bought it, there is possibly a flow issue, but I digress.

My 4120 (unless I'm mistaken) already has a 3 valve control (with I believe a detent in one direction--in and outs are plugged), and a slot cut out in the three point lever cover. Is there a kit that contains the pre-shaped lines that parallel the existing loader lines up to the quick connect fitting, and the lever, and appropriate linkages?

I've searched the JD parts catalogue, found a number I THINK might be it, but description is vague , confusing. 'Not asking for folks to research numbers, rather, where should I be looking?
Why would a kit be different for a cab tractor? Am I wrong about the usage and installation of said kit, and wouldn't a lever control be better for sensitivity, "holding" (a grapple), and cleaner setup? I installed the OE power beyond kit and it was very simple to the kit number and put the circuit on. Incidentally; the 4310 came factory with what looks to be the same 3 circuit control valve; also the 3rd circuits just plugged. Thanks again

If on your 4310 you have a diverter valve the button should only "divert" the valve to something else (your grapple?) and the lever should allow operation. I would divert the bucket dump/curl function rather than the boom lift/lower function. Maybe you do not have diverter valve, but a solenoid operated vale that is either on or off, so no flow control. I digress too.

For the 3rd function kit for your 4120 JD parts shows two kits with a serial number break. Later kit is a diverter. Hard lines go to the rear of the tractor not the middle where your loader hooks up. I do not see this as a problem, either install to rear and use hoses to get to the loader (then you have a rear set for other uses) or install and substitute hoses for the hard lines and run them where you want.

Difference between a cab and open station kit MIGHT be due to lever location or line routing.

I use a rear SCV on my 2030 for my grapple ( I ran hoses from the rear to the mid 3 function coupler. I can unhook at the rear if that SCV is needed at the rear) My valve has detents in both directions that "kickout" at full pressure. I normally just move the lever to the detent to open or close the grapple. I have not found the need for sensitivity with the grapple.

It sounds like you just need a lever and hoses to add 3rd function.

You might try posting this in the John Deere Owning Operating section for more replies.
