Yanmar 1300D
My "low cost" new to me 1300D is at it again. My injection pump died, so I removed the radiator and fan so that I could get to it. This is what i found. I'm not sure if its old fuel, oil or forty plus years of gunk. Either way it doesn't look good. I cant really tell where the leak is originating. I am at the point where i think i may have bought a turd. Im not sure whether to rebuild the engine, part out the tractor or just get it running. I would love to hear any input. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Thanks in advance. 20181205_121521.jpg

That "gunk"is nothing to worry about. Quite common for diesel and you can tell by the amount of build-up,it's run for years since it begin to leak. As far as rebuilding the pump, you are on your own. Rebuilding an injection pump require's more precision and skill than anything else on a tractor.

How did the injection pump "die"?

The number 2 cylinder was weak and then stopped pumping all together. I tried the tapping trick on Hoyes website to no avail. I plan on buying a new pump from Hoye.

That makes me feel a bit better. I plan to buty a new pump, looks to be very complicated to rebuild.

looks like where diesel fuel or a little oil has leaked.
A little oil or diesel leak will look like a large leak with the way it just kinda just soaks into everything

There is a guy that comes on here from time to time that re builds diesel pumps. He may show up and give you a price to rebuild the pump

Yep that is just normal build up over the years. I agree with Jaxs, the injection pump is piece of the tractor that requires exceptional skills to rebuild. Buy new or find someone who specifically works on injection pumps. Sorry that your 1300 is giving you so many fits. I would like to think it is worth repairing.

That "gunk" is nothing to worry about, its fuel and or oil combined with dirt that sticks to it and it keeps growing. Its a leak sure but there is lots of cars on the road and equiptment that works everyday with similar build up on them. That is not the problem or really a serious issue.
