The other side also has a good case, IMO, in that warranty work needs a dealer, and so would trade in for new purchase. For me, I would like to have my dealer available for many years. If my local dealers disappear, and I need warranty work done 4 years from now... I'm not going to want to drive 2 or 3 states away for that service.
I don't think you are wrong. I think both perspectives have great points. You are wise to save money, IMO. It may also be wise to support your dealer...like buying insurance.
We don't disagree.
I use independent shops for everything after the warranty is over. I have used a local guy for my lawnmower and tractor. He comes to my house saving the trouble of loading and hauling plus he is less expensive than the dealer. As to trade in I have never traded anything, ATV, car, truck, tractor. I figure why let someone else make money off what I have taken care of. On my wife's last car I thought of trading but I came out $1500 ahead to sell it my self. I spend 3 or 4 hours cleaning it up, put it in the neighbors yard with a sign and showed it to 8 to 10 people. So for less than one days work I made $1500.
