Parts for 1998 7300 Cub Cadet

Hello all and greetings from the sunshine state. I am having problems locating parts for a 1998 Cub Cadet 7300 4WD not that I require anything major at this time but aside from normal maintenance fluids and filters parts for the mentioned tractor are not readily available. There were a lot of these things manufactured for a number of brands by Mitsubishi and I am thinking that perhaps parts are available but maybe under a different name. All suggestions will be entertained and appreciated.

It's good that you are looking around before you need the parts. I've got a 1998 Cub Cadet 3185, a hefty commercial model riding mower about half the weight of your tractor. It was not working but free, so I spent a fair amount of time digging up parts. Surprise! Most of the minor parts for your tractor are probably no longer made or available. We are talking 23 years ago here. But, if you dig, you can find some old dealers who still have some compatible parts on a back shelf, or those that are buying up old tractors and parting them out. I'd take the time to identify some sources for various things before you need them. I found some parts through the Internet at an old Western Auto store 500 miles away because they once sold Cub Cadets and still had parts left. These old Cub Cadets are pretty sturdy and run forever, but you don't want to have to junk it over a part costing a buck or two. Mine is now running and should be good for several more years before any major repair. Good luck.

I will have to agree about parts availability for a machine that is 20+ years the likelihood of me finding some of the smaller parts and pieces is somewhat remote, however, I'm sure there are a few around that I can use disguised by other brand names. I live in a rural community and I have yet to go to any of the local shops and auctions. What I was hoping to get from someone on this forum was what may be the best way to begin my search.

I started by downloading operators and shop manuals for the specific tractor and engine. I then identified the parts I needed specifically by number. Then I went to various parts sites to identify the availability of the parts and, if unavailable, to identify identical parts or those that could be substituted. Once I had several numbers that should work for parts I needed, I simply began a thorough Internet search for those numbers and a few words to describe the part. For example, the small tractor I had used a weird drive-shaft "universal joint" of plastic pieces - about 12 as I recall, that were held by forks to allow flexible function. I had a hard time finding replacements until I discovered on an old repair site that they were called "barrels" because of their shape. Ultimately I found enough and made repairs. The hardest part to locate was a cover for the flywheel that had been shredded when that "universal joint" assembly failed. I went through tons of search pages on several search engines and finally found one someone had put on a back shelf in a former Western Auto in Ohio someplace. I got it for $5. Subsequently I have located several guys who collect old units like mine and part them out. I can't imagine but that there are folks willing to part out a 7300.

Well hello folks.I've just started my research for the future clutch replacement. I have learned that the current Mahindra models are identical parts to several of the Cub's from around the 2000's and before. I have the factory manual and - yeah it is a bit lax in the detail aspect.... especially when compared to my old Subie factory service manuals....(shrugs)
