Parts rumor

I was just informed by a Yanmar dealer that Yanmar will no longer sell parts for grey market tractors. Dealers will have to provide model and serial numbers when ordering parts. Is this true? How will this affect parts availability for greys?

While not a Yanmar owner, I have a hard time believing they can pull this off. There are too many out there and how they going to verify the numbers? They will need to hire a bunch of Arthur Anderson accountants to track all the numbers and it will cost them a bunch of money they don't want to spend.

Parts are a high profit item. As long as there is demand and profit someone will skirt the rule and sell the parts.

It would be nice to hear from some of the parts dealers regarding the parts availability for Grey Market Yanmars. In the absence of good information from respected parts dealers, this rumor regarding Yanmar cutting off parts for imported Yanmars will become the conventional wisdom. If such is the case, the comfort level of prospective buyers for buying imported Yanmars will plummet. The parts availability for Yanmar tractors was a key factor for my purchase and if this availability was to change, I would likely sell my Yanmar and find another tractor.
Is there any truth to these rumors?

I spoke with a gentleman yesterday and he told me the same thing, and while I'm looking to sell a few Yanmar grey's it has at least got me wary, but surely if this comes about someone will import parts from Japan for the grey's, I think, I hope.

I strongly suspect this "information" is coming from "Authorized Yanmar Dealers". I was told this same thing about gray's by an authorized dealer back in June, 2001, when I was shopping for a tractor.

I have to wonder how it is going to make Yanmar more money not selling parts for grays in the USA? Maybe Yanmar wants to get a better feeling for the number of Yanmar grays being used in the USA.

I think this will be a reason to boost part prices. other than that I dont see it happening
