I'm looking at building a Pergola like shown which is 8'x12' outside dimensions post to post and will be on a concrete slab. Can buy a precut kit of "..... constructed of #1 grade, natural select, treated southern yellow pine. In addition to this process, which prevents decay and insect damage, the pine is kiln-dried before and after treatment, to minimize warping, checking, and twisting".
The kit price is about $3500 plus shipping from PA to KS and includes pre-stained. My question is whether I would be better off buying CDA treated lumber from the local yard and do all the cutting and building myself without the benefit of a plan drawing. A concern I have is the local stock is not kiln dried after treating and this lumber is normally very wet (sometimes sopping wet) and is apt to warp severely while eventually drying outdoors. I suspect that the #1 grade specified in the kit is better lumber than the local stuff but don't know that for sure.
It would be good to know the board feet of lumber involved but don't have that info.

This is the website from which I created the $3500 price by adding various options.
Would appreciate hearing your comments.
