Pat's Easy Change Pat's Quick Hitch - [Not] a complaint

I took my old pat's off my 3940 and put them on my 2650. One of my pins fell out while rototilling. I came up with the same solution you did.

I guess that "cast" means that they are poured steel into a mold. Forged products must be a special treatment for durability. Guess I could (google) look all that up. As to PAT'S, I guess a "cast" product is all that's is needed for ordinary usage.

I gotta get me some of those grade 8 bolts of the correct length.....That sure makes a cleaner looking mount.

Forged is when the metal is hammered, squeezed, or forced into shape. It takes heavy equipment vs just a mold metal is poured into.

On a trip to Iowa once, I was offered a tour of the JD plant that made cotton strippers. There I saw the Forging Process and yes you take a glowing orange, Ingot, with a pair of tongs (in this case), and stick it into a huge press, do the process and the ingot comes out in a different shape. Then into the cooling medium being some kind of oil....in this case...have heard Peanut Oil delivers the right temper in a/some Forging process(es).

My Cat II Pat's are definitely Cast. My take on casting vs cold rolled steel is that the ductility of the steel can be important in some applications where cast iron is not ductile and when the material stress limits are overcome, it will break, like a high tensile Grade 8 bolt (acting like a cast part) vs Grade 2 (acting like a cold rolled steel part) as an example.
