Is anyone using/tried the Paynes logger forks? Or something similar? JD fork set-up is over 1K and I do not want to spend that much. With clearing land the forks would sure help!

I bought a set of the Payne Logger forks this past summer to pickup and transport 5 ~ 6 foot lengths of oak I was cutting down. I think they are better than having to cut 4' length's and rolling them into the FEL as I was doing originally but, they are limited on how you can use them since they aren't "solid mounted". If you start putting a lateral load on them while trying to get under a log they will get skewed on the FEL. Also your FEL lifting capacity is somewhat reduced since they are cantilevered further out off the FEL. They are nice in ensuring the logs won't roll back on you as you raise the FEL above the tractor. One other item, the screw used to tighten them to the loader bucket was putting a divit in the bucket since there was no pad under the screw point. They are made well, strong with good quality welds, etc. So, are they worth it? For me the answer is yes but they have their limits.

I have moved hundreds of logs with my set of med. duty Payne forks and they have taken everything in stride. It's true they can be skewed to the side if they are not tight enough, but it really helps to have a toothbar on the FEL, because you can really tighten them on without damage to the bucket... I use a 2lb persuader, and they will not slip when I am done. These are really solid forks!

Totally agree w/Grandad; put the forks on over a toothbar and you don't have to worry about using Payne light duty forks to lift as much as my B7800 can handle (a bit more than 1000#)

I just bought a set of their light duty forks for my BX. One reason that I bought the Paynes over other brands is that they are lighter than any other forks that I saw (70 pounds). That was important to me since the lift capacity of the BX is under 500 pounds. Adding 200+ pounds of fork metal quoted by some mfgs, coupled with the lost lift capacity due to the leverage factor made me pick the Payne product over others.

That is good to know as I have a tooth bar on my FEL and was wondering if the forks would work with it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
