PDF Editor

Anyone know where I can download a free (hopefully) pdf editor?

I have a single 8 1/2 x 11 page that all I need to edit is where it says

"your name/number"

and insert my name/number... I've found them for near $80 but prefer to not pay that for a single line item.

Richard ... do a search on "PDF Writer" say on google. I've never seen a PDF editor per say. I'd be surprised if there weren't some PDF generators out there in shareware land.

PDFs aren't the most stable formats, so I'm sure all of these tools actually parse a PDF then regenerate them.

I have the Adobe writer and it doesn't provide any means to edit an existing file. You create the document in whatever word processor or publishing tool you prefer and send it to the writer as if printing to a printer. It creates the PDF file but to edit it you have to edit the origional document and re-generate the PDF file.

I recently downloaded PDF4Free, and it works like BobReeves says his Adobe Writer does... and it's free. Check out http://www.pdfpdf.com/pdf4free.html. I don't know if it will do what you want it to do, but it will probably come in handy anyhow.

PDF is a proprietary format developed and patented by Adobe. While you might find a couple of shareware editors that can work on a pdf file, commercial editors would require royalties to Adobe. What Adobe really wants is for you to buy their products.

Bob, Adobe Writer 5 has a text touchup tool that allows editing of the pdf file. It works on one line at a time. It will do what Richard wants. That's assuming the file creator did not apply any security to the file.

If Richard wants to email me the file I'll be glad to make the change and send it back.
