It's hard to believe that it has been seventy years since the attack on Pearl Harbor. My wife visited Hawaii a few years ago to visit her brother before he went to Iraq. I was not able to go, but I asked her to visit Pearl Harbor and take pictures for me. She took a lot of pictures but this is my favorite. It is looking up from the USS Arizona memorial. It makes me think about what happened that day seventy years ago and the men that still rest beneath that flag.

I've pulled into Pearl many times when I was in the USN aboard the USS Hancock CVA-19, 39,000 tons of Aircraft Carrier. As we'd came past the "Arizona" except for the sound of engines pushing us trough the water you could have heard a pin drop. It was very much like being in church.

Every time we came past the Memorial I made it a point to be up on deck as we passed her to observe and to say a prayer for her crew and all American Servicemen who made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve what we have in this great country. It was awesome to see, every time.

God Bless America and God Bless our Troops.

Hard for me to forget Pearl Harbor;not only is it my birthday but my father served in the Navy there for two years.Didn't talk about it much but remember looking at all the old pictures he had.His father had migrated from Germany in 1907;they interviewed him at the start of WWII...he had six sons serving in the U.S. military.

My Grandmother's younger brother was reported killed at Pearl Harbor. At some point the family found out he was still alive but then he was killed in action about two weeks later.

I watched the memorial landing being built over the U.S.S. Arizona from its inception while stationed aboard the U.S.S. Greenlet ASR-10 submarine rescue vessel and was discharged shortly before it was completed. Even at the tender age of nineteen, I felt the sense of patriotic dignity for those who served.
