Has this been posted? Here's some really cool ideas for pedal-powered machines used in Central America. Plans are given for a mill/corn thresher, blender, and water pumps -- and there's also a list of pending prototypes (but no tractor). Maybe that old bike you have out in the barn that you haven't ridden for years might come in handy after all. :)

Bicimacquinas are pedal-powered machines that assist with a variety of jobs in the home, on the farm, on the road and in small businesses. Each bicimacquina is handmade in our workshop using a combination of old bikes, concrete, wood, and metal.

So of course I had to Google "pedal-powered tractors" to discover they're not all designed especially for toddlers:

Those are pretty cool ideas! I like the person who adapted an alternator that is pedal powered to charge a battery for a remote location so someone can use a laptop. That is actually a pretty good idea for a remote camp, or long power outage, and great way to stay in shape! I worked at a college in Western Mass for a brief period, and I use to see a guy riding a three wheeled bike around that had a blender attached to the back. He brought his own party wherever he went, and he later invented bicycle ambulances for improvised locations. Heres the link to the project: http://vimeo.com/2108508

I read somewhere a few years back about a couple that hooked their TV up to a bicycle powered generator and the only way their kids could watch TV was if they pedaled the bicycle. The kids still watched, but not as much and were more selective about what they watched.

I could see where some of those applications have some merit, think back to the old foot powered sewing machines, sharpening wheels and things like that.

Sorry, but growing up, I was the "engine" for: water pump for a LOT of cattle, hoe, ax, cross cut saw, weed hook, briar scythe, maddox, shovel, Kaiser blade...if it ain't got a motor, I don't want anything to do with it.
