Perfect hack for 3PH control handle slipping down

I decided to remedy the problem of the 3PH control lever having too much slack, or a soft spot (looser), in the middle of the travel range. You can tighten up the nyloc nut all you want, but then it is too stiff, or very stiff at the top and bottom of travel, then drops on its own in the mid-range (where it is set to the most). This is for most JD sub compacts, but I have seen similar on other brands. The problem with this JD 4x10 series design is that the friction washers have a lot of friction, but the outer tube that goes to the RCV has hardly any friction. Therefore the friction washers lock up, and the rotation is diverted to the thin tube, which rotates very easy. I simply welded two washers together, then welded that to the tube, (I over killed on the weld, you really don't need that much) then re-sized the inside of tube (from weld hoop shrinkage) with a 31/64 drill bit, (but you could use a round file). Install by driving washer with drift punch (or a socket) over bolt head shown. NOW the tube is stationary, and the properly lubricated friction washers do their intended job, by creating a steady friction rate throughout the range of motion. Adjust nyloc nut to your preferred amount of force on the lever handle. Works like a charm. :thumbsup:
