Ok I think I may have a problem with my tractor, but not exactly sure. I know, souds weird right?
My Massey 231 has the 3 cylinder Perkins AD3.152 Diesel engine. It has 1,050 hours on the original working meter. At 480 hours when I got the tractor about 7 to 8 years ago, I flushed out the radiator with water and added new 50/50 antifreeze.
I just found out today that I don't think it's cooling like it should and it's been like this for years!!
I was running it for about an hour and a half and decided to open the radiator cap out of the blue once I got it back under the shed. The water temp gauge has always ran close to the "white" color on the gauge. The "green" color on the gauge is the safe range. Well when I took the cap off the water never boiled out or anything! Wasn't swirling around either. I could stick my finger in the antifreeze but couldn't keep it there too long cause it was just a little too hot.
So then I decided to take the grille off the front of the tractor to look at the radiator. It wasn't stopped up with dirt or grass cause I've always checked it regular and kept it clean. I then felt the top of the radiator and it was barely warm. Then I felt the bottom and it was cool as can be. So it made me concerned enough to come on here and start a post.
Do ya'll think there's a problem with the cooling system or not? If so, what do u think it could be?
Thanks to all.
