The 3 cylinder Perkins diesel engine has a pretty loud bark when working and idling. Is there a way to quiet the exhaust note on this engine? The current exhaust is the vertical pipe and muffler.
Perkins powered M-F 231S exhaust noise.

That is pretty normal for the 231S. Replace it with an inexpensive automotive muffler and pipe locally - you can reduce the noise by almost 50%.

My Fordson Super Dexta has the 3-152 Perkins, pretty much the same engine as your Massey. I can affirm that a bigger muffler quiets the exhaust noise. I put the muffler off an '86 F-150 on it. Had to use multiple adapters since the Ford muffler has a much larger pipe size. It still makes plenty of diesel clatter from the engine, but the exhaust is pretty quiet.
