I need to plumb in a crossover relief valve into my 3rd function. There isn't one on my hydraulic post hole digger & judging by how the hoses jump when letting off the solenoid buttons the hoses are getting hammered as the motor spins down briefly acting as a pump.

Is there any reason I cant or shouldn't mount it to the tractor side of the QDs rather than the auger side? I was plannning on setting it in the 2,500-3,000psi range. Tractor is rated at 2,500psi, hydraulic motor & hoses are rated at up to 3,000psi. I'm trying to figure out any drawbacks to putting a crossover relief on there permantly. Other than when a pump/motor overpressurizes things the the crossover relief shouldn't do anything as long as its set higher than the tractor's normal relief.

I was looking at*1/2 NPT 3 GPM 15-3 PSI HYD CUSHION VALVE | Relief & Cushion Valves | Hydraulic Valves | Hydraulics | www.surpluscenter.com, but just realized there is a crossover relief on my SSQA plow. No clue offhand what size fittings or what PSI it's set to. Need to go check that out.

Any thoughts on permantly mounting up a crossover relief on the 3rd runction circuit?

Down side of mounting the cross over relief some distance from the auger motor is response time. Normally it is better to put the safety devise (relief valve) as close as reasonably possibly to the source of the pressure spike.

You could try it this way. The drawing is from a salesman from Traush hydraulic. He suggested this for a project I am doing. check valve setup.jpg

Is that center bit a 2 way relief valve? Adjustable or fixed pressure? If it's just a 1 way check valve, that would work for a mower or something that only run direction. I need to reverse the auger on the PHD a bit on occasion.

Fundamentally that Prince crossover relief valve I linked does something similar. 2 adjustable relief valves, one on each side. Dumps to the other side if it hits the adjustable relief pressure.

It is a 1 way check valve for a hydraulic motor that only turns 1 way. It is in the line for motor wind down when you shut off supply. You are correct, it probably wont work for your phd.

Would simply slowing engine speed back just before releasing cure or limit this?
I know what you mean about how immediate elec sol. (3rd function) valves work, but on my SS, (manual valve) I always "snap" back & forth direction to clean the auger with some "jerking" but not enough to worry me. This immediate loading & unloading without being under load (I would think:D) should not hurt anything.:confused3:

Did you ever mount your relief valve for your auger drive, I’m just about to start using my new danuser and in the manual it states to use one if your valve doesn’t have any type of relief in neutral. Guess I’ll be ordering one from surplus center this week.

Still sitting on the bench. Not many hole drilling jobs here in Colorado in the winter.

I just got my lathe, so might be embarking on my hydraulic SSQA project here in a month or 2. Will likely plumb the crossover relief when I start on the SSQA project. Had the manual diverter valve for that project for a while too. I expect I'll put the relief valve upstream of the diverter.

It works without the relief valve, but I can figure the forces involved & see the hoses involved without that relief valve. Really need to get it plumbed in before any more holes get dug.

Ah I understand, weather went down hill a couple days after Christmas and hasn’t improved much yet. I just finished the left side offset to the ssqa mount and figured be best to go ahead and plumb in the relief now while setting up the connections. Think I’m going to mount mine on the ssqa mount frame and run two short hoses from the relief to the power head then the factory hoses from it to my loader connections.
