I want to make a stand for my PHD. In just looking at different ones, I do not want one with "legs", looks like too much trouble to get the legs in place and set down compared to the two pictures I attached.

So, is the 4x4 in the first pic the best option? or the metal "bucket" in the second pic?

The metal bucket looks easier to use, drop it in and detach the 3 point.

Any ideas for a different style? It has to be for a one man operation.

John

I like the 4x4 post one you can move it around easy to hook everything up

I have always just screwed it in the ground and cut loose from it . If you need something fancy I would do the pipe method

I use the first method, but I use a cheap HF chain hoist with it. The second pic is interesting...never seen that before.

I did this for mine. Having it hanging from a chain makes it super easy to take off and put back on again. Before doing this, I just dug the auger into the ground and left it there. It didn't rust out during the few years I had it in the dirt, but it looked terrible and I was worried it would rust out on me eventually.

The problem with the 2nd picture is the PHD hitch now sets on the ground or has to be blocked up and there fore has to always be lifted. :(

I have a similar unit as your 1st pic, but without the chain. I have a removable 4x4 that I hang on. This fully supports the PHD, does not just swing around on it's own. Typically takes me 5-6 minutes to hitch up or un-hitch. That is including PTO and hydraulics. Heaviest part to pick up is the end of the PTO shaft.

I do something very similar to MtnViewRanch except my 4x4s are on a dolly in my shop that I can roll it around on casters.

Must be nice to have a shop to be able to do that in.

Well, it is 30x48 and very full. So not much "shoppin" gets done in there, though I did make enough room this past summer I was able to put a clutch in the tractor. I'll start with the highlights - Tractor, box blade, bush hog, PHD, table saw, 3 riding lawn mowers, snow blower, 2 roto tillers, golf cart, 3 tool boxes, 2 work benches, gas grill, pallet of goat feed, '93 Camaro, my son's Sonata, and my Elantra. Up until 3 weeks ago when my son bought the Camaro, at least my truck was inside, now it is outside once again. So if I want to do much of anything, there is at least one vehicle getting backed out.
