Maybe construction? When I bought my JD I got lots of attachments including a Danuser digger. I've used it a lot and it seems well made. Dealer said "it's the Cadillac of diggers". Maybe he should have said Rolls Royce

Mine works fine . Was looking for a 12 in auger for mine . Was seeing used danuser Phd for anywhere from 1200 to 1700 . Just got me thinking what made them worth the extra money ?

I think they are built out of better materials...

I use to have a farm store PHD, it worked pretty good when the going wasn't too bad, but when conditions got worse, it started hard and many times wouldn't bore a straight hole. I found it VERRY annoying!

My brother bought a Bush Hog brand PHD, and yeaa it was much more expensive than mine, but it worked a thousand times better in tough conditions. When my brother said he was going to sell it, as he didn't need it any longer, I bought it from him.

Compared to the farm store PHD I had (that I sent down the road) the Bush Hog PHD was and is, a dream to use!!

I've used Danuser PHD, they are well made, work great in tough soil and last a long time...

I have a hydraulic Danuser post hole digger that mounts on my loader. Well made.

There are three model Danuser models that work on a three point hitch. The "Cadillac" model is the F-8. Their web site calls it the "Cadillac" of PHD. The gears and bearings are very large. This model is rated to spin a 30" auger. The Tractor Supply Company model that costs $500 can handle a 12" auger. The forces on a 30" auger are massive compared to a 12" auger. Some of the other manufacturers like Landpride and Bush Hog manufacture PHDs that are rated to 24". The Danuser F8 costs $3500 new. You have to ask yourself what do you really want to do with the post hole digger. I have taken apart a Danuser F8 and the size of the internal components will shock you. Asking what the Danuser will do compared to others is like asking why does the rear end in your 1 ton pickup cost more than the rear end in you old Chevrolet Vega? They both move the vehicle.

I have always thought Danuser to be more suited to commercial or large farm/ranch applications. Ken Sweet
