Murph, his BB is a lot newer than my version, and I think your version. Mine was a manual lift converted to hydraulic. The previous owner had started the process. He eliminated the torsion springs and the handle mechanism and replaced that with a small cylinder. The problem is the manual lift version uses the hook mechanism to lift the scarifier beam. The hook is strong enough to do that because of the torsion springs. Once he eliminated those he put all the torque on the hook. It wouldn't stand it. He immediately broke the hook. That's when he parked it. Enter me. I welded the hook back together and dumbly tried it out. Instantly broke the hook. So I jury rigged a setup to lift the beam without stressing the hook. That's what I need to get good pictures of for you. Because I wasn't even sure it would work I didn't worry much about looks. I've used the snot out of it with no failure. I'll try to get you pics as soon as I can. Sorry I've procrastinated on this one Murph.

Let me add. However you decide to go about adding the cylinder, leave the torsion spring assembly in place. There's no reason to remove it and you'll take all that load off your cylinder lift mechanism and the hook. I'll try to dig around and find my broken hook and post a pic of it also. Although it appears to be beefy, it's not designed to lift weight. In the middle of it the hook is very small and the leverage of trying to lift the beam breaks it.

Dug around in the iron pile and found the hook. I welded it back together a second time then realized something else was wrong and redesigned and bought a new hook. The big hook end of this is what keeps the scarifier beam locked in the down position. The smaller end is lifted by whatever mechanism you are using to unlatch the hook. Then if you are manual, your torsion springs take over the task of raising the beam. If you are hydraulic the linkage takes over the process and eliminates the stress off the hook. As you can see the hook is very very small where mine broke. The large hole is the pin the hook swivels on and takes the load of holding the beam in place. The small eyelet on the other end of the hook is for the spring to hold it in the latched position. In Doc's pics you can see that his linkage does all the work. Yours and mine were not designed that way. So you can see it takes quite a bit of modification. Again, in your case, leave the torsion spring assembly in place regardless what else you decide to do.

My spring assembly is mostly missing. Please use this thread to post photo's as it will have all the pics in 1 thread and maybe help someone else too.
