I'm sorry I just cant believe how company's now make the mixtures screws so hard to adjust.
A couple years ago i had to purchase two weed eaters, and the first was returned because it wouldn't run with correct mixtures, and the needles went easy accessible.
Anyways I just had one that was about a year old and didn't run similar. After grinding down some pliers I was able to finely spin the mix screw ever so much and away it went. I realize that the manufacture has to make them this way to please the envir people but If they put any thought into it they would relieve just how many of these are returned as defective and then shipped back ,etc.consider the fuel to ship etc.
Just like he mandated vehicle air pressure sensors in the cars now. a big PIA.They never work right and most people just say ignore them.:laughing:Its a good concept but really are we to dumb now to not keep tabs on the air?It used to be part of the driver training..
At any rate these needles screws are slightly cerated(sp) wonder if theres a small special tool that reaches int here to adjust them> Thats my next search..

Find a screw head you like, of the same diameter, cut it off, knurl it, and fasten it to the mixture screw with heat-shrink tubing/

You must learn to "think outside the box"
Think about the inside diameter of the thin, slightly flexible, colored, insulating material on the end in relation to the needle shafts you are trying to turn slightly. Then think about the small space/hole around the shafts in relation to the outside diameter of the insulation on the wire tab. The metal tab is your handle to turn either with your index finger and thumb or a small
set of pliers. The tool the other fellow showed you works the same way but may not be the correct size for your machine. The insulated wire tabs are available in a number of sizes based on the gauge of wire. If you don't have any that fit you can get a variety pak that has different sizes for a few cents each.

If you had a slot, which you don't, you could have just used a tiny screw driver.

AHH very nice idea... took me awile..lol

I have cut straight slots in the heads of weird screws easily with a Dremel tool and a cutoff wheel.. takes seconds.. Then you could use your screwdriver with ease.. If you cannot reach it with the wheel, in place. remove it and put it carefully in a vise with leather in the jaws to not damage the tiny threads. Just an idea..

I bought the correct tool several years ago for $5 and now can work on poulan, husqvarna, jonsered, craftsman, weedeater and more without doing goofy stuff to the equipment.

They are illegal to own if you are not a authorized dealer. That means that a Poulan dealer can be fined for using the poulan tool to adjust a Craftsman. the U.S. EPA can and does watch forums like this one. The current fines are $38,500 for selling it and $3000 to the guy that buys it. And those are per day fines.

As of January 1 of this year. fines are no longer limited to manufacturers and retailers. John Q Public can now be fined for tampering with an emissions control device.

In the last 10 years the number of investigators has went from like 29 to over 600. They are inspecting lawn mower shops for compliance with the rules. The were inspecting Toro shops for non-compliant engines early this year in northern Illinois.

You can refuse the EPA entry unless they have a warrant or court order.

Electronic Code of Federal Regulations:

I have yet to hear of the EPA going after the motorcycle owners and shops that alter the exhaust and fuel systems.

The EPA has bigger fish to fry with the large chainsaw market where the arborist NEEDS equipment to run right to do their jobs.
