Pick up dump bed

Just wondering if anyone has ever made there pick up box into a dump bed?? Is there a kit you can buy to do this?? I have seen trucks that have them so I know there out there somewhere. Thanks Dan

Try <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.maxidump.com/index.html>Maxi-Dump</A> to get some of this information. We have a local distributor, and we see these types of set-ups all the time. Our City Parks department uses 2 or 3 also. They're very handy.

Well I've had both. I had the pickup box conversion from Pierce Sales who makes them for everyone who re-sells them in their catalogs. It works Ok but you should really have a dual battery setup and relocating the fuel filler is not always easy to get in a position so that you don't have to raise the box to fill it up. Also, when the box is full it is really hard to open the tailgate. You can shovel some away from it to releave enough pressure to open it, or make a different bottom swing gate. I currently have an EZ-Dumper. Its goes in using the existing 4 four bed bolts and can be moved from truck to truck if you get a new one. This one costs around $1,800-$1,900, Maxi-Dump also makes a nice unit for about the same cost. Del Hydraulics also makes one called the little tipster. This one is different in that it uses a teliscoping cylinder, has a nicer tailgate design, but it's a bit more expensive. I would suggest either the EZ-Dumper or the Maxi-Dump.

I've got one on my 1 ton Chevy. Best money I ever spent. I did make a couple of minor modifications while installing it. First, I installed the power unit behind the seat, rather than under the truck where it'd get all munged up. Second, I built a subframe under the bed for the lift arm to attach to. Attaching it to the sheetmetal ribs on the bed just didn't seem like a very good idea to me. Third, I drilled and tapped the pivot points on the scissors lift for grease fittings.

I've had it over 10 years, on a single battery system, with absolutely no problems whatever. My box is about worn out now, and I intend to replace the box with a flatbed, and still use the existing hoist.

Glen we use a pierce 10 ton lift on our flat bed dodge. I used a piece 1/2"x4"x2'channel to span the frame rails for the lift attachment and pump mounting location. then used road grader blade to make the rear pivots. the rear pivot hole I just hogged out with the smoke wrench then a little grinder action to knock off the sharp edges. after 9 years the original pins are still good. the whole process took about 17 hours to install(work/beer/work/smoke).

I have a 1984 GMC with a 1 ton rear that was converted with a 12v hydraulic dump. I use it very often and it performs well. I believe northern hydraulics sell the same pump units and hyraulics.

I found two kits for sale on e-bay about a year and a half ago. I installed one on my F250. Best thing I ever did with that old truck. The only thing is, now my honey-do list includes hauling mulch and manure for the gardens.

I did it by myself in the driveway. It was a whole lot easier than I thought. I have to lift the bed to gas up so that takes a little prior planning, but the looks I get at the gas station are worth it
