Few John Deere's and one Ford 3600 diesel.
Since I've had two brand new atv's stolen within the past two years I pretty much learned to live without one around my farm for the past year. I began realizing just how much I missed having one and how much I actually used it, so I talked myself into looking at used atv's. No more new atv's for this guy! anyways, I had always wanted to own a Honda Fourtrax 300 but finding one that hasn't been turned into a mud machine, beat to heck and back, or is in such great shape you wonder if they ever rode the thing, was going to be pretty near impossible. What I noticed was if I was going to get one in good shape(has been used but not abused, runs good, etc) I was going to have to search near and far, be ready to spend $$$ as these are classics and anyone that owns one knows what they have and knows people want them, and last but not least I was going to need a little bit of luck on my side. I was cruising though the local trader paper last week and there it was. 1998 Honda Fourtrax 4x4, good shape, runs good and he only wanted $2,200:drool: Something didn't sound right because I had seen 2wd's in good shape going for $2,400, even ragged out 4x4's were bringing that on a bad day. I called the guy up and set up a time to go check it out. As soon as I got there and saw it in person I knew I was leaving with it no matter what. All she needs is a new battery, some rear brake work, and a good washing:thumbsup: I ended up getting it for $2,100 and I don't see why this won't last me another 14 years:D

yeah I think I did too. I really think he just wanted to let it go for what he had in it, he didn't make any money on it. I am the 3rd owner of the atv and there really is only minimal work that needs to be done to it. the plastics are in very good shape and the racks and bumpers are straight as can be! this thing has been used but not abused thats for sure. I knew if I didn't jump on it today it would be gone soon and I'd be kicking myself.

That's one of the best atvs ever made. Will go anywhere and has plenty of grunt.

Good job. Those are great machines. I had a 91 two wheel drive and it ran perfectly!!! Love to find one like yours for that price.

Yeah I just couldn't see buying new again and spending $6,000+ when there were reliable atv's out there under $3,000. I'll have to put $100-200 in this one but I can live with that for it being 14 years old. It should be perfect for what I want it for (cruising timber, hunting, riding fence lines, spraying, little joy riding every now and then). For only 300cc's(technically 282cc's) this thing feels like a 400! I also like how readily available parts are for these and anyone with minimal mechanical knowledge can turn a wrench on these. the hard part is finding one in decent shape at a decent price. the harder part is going to be learning to say "no" to people that ask me if I want to sell it.

Eddie,

The best advice I can give you is to just keep looking. I've been keeping my eyes and ears open for about a year, but I really started looking about a month ago. The guy I got this one from happen to take it on trade from the original owner for a smaller bike for his son. This guy did some work to it and then only wanted to get what he had into it. All it needs now is a new battery(it's a little weak for my taste) and the rear brakes. I've seen countless 2wd's of these going for what I paid for this one. You will come across the right one eventually though, but once you do don't wait around because it will be gone. The guy admitted to me that if I hadn't bought it today that he was strongly considering trading with a guy that had been bugging him about doing a trade. I was the first person to show up with cash, everyone else wanted to trade for it.

There are 4wheeler parks all around us,it would be like finding a needle in a hay stack for us to find one in that good of shape..
