Well I waited and waited and finally found a used box scraper locally. It is mechanically sound, likely less than 5 years old. Only has some surface rust and worn paint, but who cares about that right? It is a 6' King Kutter. Of course I didnt think to snap a few pics of it to post here, but i will today! My only question is this, how heavy do you think a 6' KK box scraper is? It looks very heavy, I didn't try moving it when I went to look at it though. We are moving it in the seller's pickup, but loading it in there is going to be a chore...as he doesn't have a FEL or working tractor at all for that matter. Unloading is no trouble as I have a FEL on my tractor. I was considering maybe chaining a landscape timber to the top of it to make it easier to lift off the ground, any tips? Do you think two guys can lift this thing? :confused2:

According to the KK website.....a six foot BB weight 415 lbs. You better have a strong friend to wrestle it on by hand. I think you could pick it up anywhere on the frame with a log chain, I wouldn't worry about bending it up by lifting.

I often just work with one end to load heavy objects like this box blade. To get the pickup close enough to pick up the one end and swing it up on to the tail gate and then to pick the other end and slide it in!

I'd also remove the teeth before loading!

If you stripp it like Art said and have enough support under it steel/wood you can get it up there easier with a come-a-long,ropes and try to put roller pipes under it as you go along.

Good call on the teeth, they are already removed haha! Actually I havent met this guy yet, everytime I stopped by he wasn't home, but we made arrangements on the phone, and I spoke with his better half in person. He seems to think we will be ok, I guess time will tell!

That link looks exactly like the one I am getting, only cleaner with less rust lol.

Put two timbers under the length of it that are a few inches longer on each end. Good 2x4 s will probably work. Nail a short 2x4 across each end tying the long 2x4s together. So you've built a skid. Secure it to the skid so it doesn't slide to the side. Remove the pickup tail gate, lift one end of the skid up on the bed and pull it in with a come along etc. by pulling on the skid.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of deal did you get on it? I keep looking for a used one and they just don't come around very often. I found a 60" KK that had only been used once for $350 which was probably a decent price but my tractor is around 64" wide and I want to be a little wider than that.

Well the guy wanted 400$, Im getting it for 350$. Prolly could have gotten it for 300$, but I feel for the guy(self employed, kids, struggling) and he offered to use his truck to deliver it, which is good because I sold my truck 2 years ago for an explorer...Wish I hadn't now. But ya, 350$ for a barely used one is DEF. a good price. Not much to screw up on these...

You're lucky to find one in good condition for that price. I looked for a long time for a good used 84 inch with a hinged back blade. Finally had to go for a new KingKutter with a hinged back blade for $749.00.
