We got it home safely, everythings going well(doesnt like to start in the cold), but the parking brake wont stay in the off position. Please help i am looking over past posts to try to solve the problem. thanks The Trogger

I think you just need to tight the nut on the bolt that goes through the center of the brake handle. It provides the friction to hold the handle in position. It is somewhat critical: Too loose and it self engages: To tight and it is hard to move. Play around with the tightness till you are satisfied. I hope this helps.

I made a paw to hold the handle in position. You probably won't need to do that.

So how's the 422. Have been lurking for some time and hope to purchase a PT later this year. I'm waffeling between the 422 and 425 and continuing to read posts for info. I hope to venture to Tazwell in June or July for test driving.

I would get the 425 if buying again. The 50% increase in wheel torque is well worth the money and the extra horsepower is good to.

The extra lift height also makes a difference. The bucket on my 425 will just barely clear when tilting it down to dump over the side of my old Toyota 4X4 pickup. As it is, the truck has got a few dents on the side rails from the bucket curl cylinder & linkage. I wouldn't be able to load at all with a 422.

All good points. No doubt each machine is good and have their strengths. The biggest issue for me will be the "back 1 acre". Here I will use a graple bucket to clean up old dead fall...no mowing. No sure of the slope degree/grade but is easily walkable.

I really need to drive the two machines to get a better feel for the wheel torque difference.
Will continue research and planning a Taz trip!

Appreicate all input/info! (That's what I like about this site! Helpful without flaming each other for disagreeing with personal views/comments/experience.)

The following thread might make you think seriously about the 425 instead of the 422:

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/...frame-pt-422-a.html?highlight=broken+steering

Hopefully PT has redesigned where the single pivot point attaches on the PT 422. THe failure discussed in this thread occured due to the drain hole drilled in front of the pivot cylinder attachment point and the floor support bolt hole concentrating the pivoting stress through a narrow ligament of metal. The drain hole was just in a bad spot. I take the floor off of my PT422 frequently to check for metal fatigue.

The PT425 doesn't have this issue, since it uses two pivot cylinders. It also doesn't have the "false floor" which a good spot for debris and mud to build up, which can lead to some rust causing the above problem.

If I had to do it again, would I buy a 425? I don't know; it is a lot of extra money, but it is probably worth it.

Measure your slope. If the worst slope you have is less than 15 degrees (not percent), you will probably be OK with the 422. However the extra torque also helps with pushing into dirt and digging. PT went to the extra torque (PT 425s prior to around 2001 did not have it) because of complaints. I would gladly pay the extra at this time and may upgrade wheel motors or machine to get it.

Yeah, The wife is insisting on ROPS...so by the time this is added the 2500 difference gets smaller. Considering the upgrade in components may be best for me. Of my 6 acres almost all is sloped to some degree (mild) and the last 1 acre could be considered comparatively rugged. We're waiting to sell our current house and hope to move to the "farm" later this summer---then make my pilgrimage to Taz. If we get our asking price on the house (or anything near it) I will splurge on the 425. .....always comes down to the money---doesn't it?

BTW, did not mean to hi-jack this thread! I think the 422/425 are great machines and feel confident either would work.:D Thing is, I was wrestling with the idea of a CUT versus the Magnatrac for the past 18 mos....found this site somehow and a reference to the PT. Best "click" I ever made! Actually a 425 with a handful of goodies I need (want!) will come in about $5k less than either of the aforementioned machines.

Again, sorry about the hijack....
