I'd like to have a spreader that can handle salt mixed with stone dust.
Salt is very expensive, mixing it with stone dust would be an ideal spreader for me.

Salt would melt the ice and stone dust would provide traction on top of the ice. Not a bad idea. Its like mixing salt with sand. The only problem with sand is some sand is prone to clumping and freezing together

I have a 2yd Vbox sander in the back of my truck and have used sand salt as well as straight salt. The sand mix can be a PITA if it is really cold because if it has any moisture in it, it can freeze and cause tons of aggravation with a locked up sander. I have also had a 3 point hopper on a BX. For small areas it is ok., I don't think spreading salt sand would work to well because of the weight of the sand. Especially if if is wet. And remember, with a 3pt setup, you will be shoveling or dumping bags into the hopper, instead of having a loader fill a hopper.

You must have a bed mounted spreader which would be very nice! At work we have a receiver mounted spreader which has to be filled by hand. It takes 10 to 12 fifty pound bags of salt to fill it. The salt we use is expensive stuff. It is the size of 6mm bbs or about the size of kitty litter. Using regular salt it jams up 50 times before its empty. It can only run very small salt pellets.

For me a three point mount spreader would be great! Its something I could also use to seed a small garden or other uses. I could possibly build it as well!! I would be happy to use the power of my tractor PTO to power the spreader. Here we have large ice built up in many places. It started at 34 degs and heavy snow one morning and went straight to -14 degs F with -35 wind chill. The heavy wet snow froze to solid ice. we had 2 inches of ice in some areas on the pavement.

In my own terms I am purchasing my first home. I have a 25 horse power diesel tractor to plow with and would not mind building or buying my own spreader to use on my driveway. It may pay for itself quick for a homeowner like me com paired to spending a lot of money on a pickup truck model of any type
