Before I moved here to Indiana, I lived in Missouri on a wooded 5 acre lot with a log home. I cut and split my own wood and saw copperheads on a daily basis. Here is some pics of a few I killed.

Great pics, I have never seen one outside of a zoo...the shells and hoe give a good indication of the size. Would you say these were fully grown?

I'm a pretty "let nature lie" kind of guy, but man they look nasty. I'm thinking I'd shoot the buggers too.

We have a lot of those Snakes here in the Hills of Eastern Ky. They are very common Here, also We have Rattlesnakes. CopperHeads are much more aggressive. They will come around our House. Sometimes Our Dogs get bitten.

Stuff like this makes snow and cold look like attractive alternatives. I was just beginning to envy all the guys on here that were putting in gardens already. Planting at the end of May and early June sounds more agreeable now.

I enjoy not having to worry about my kids crossing one of these critters while playing outside. Thanks for posting these pics.

 You must live near me...concur with you. Winter ain't so bad when you realize you never have to cope with drought, earthquakes, floods, wildfires, most vicious wildlife, etc.....

I would say they were pretty mature. These were about average size. I wish I had more pics of them but I didn't always have my Black Berry on me. The one in the bottom pic was coiled up beside the front porch intrance. I had probably done walked by him several times before seeing it. That's the part that scared me. A rattler's bite is much more toxic, but at least they give you a "your too close" warning. Copperhead bites are more common due to their aggressive nature.

I have lived in Michigan for 59 years and I doubt I have ever seen a rattler in the wild, but I don't go in places they would be very often. I'm glad you discovered that snake by your house before it bit a kid or a pet...
