I needed to reseed about 30 acres with fescue.......I had the coop round up my fields, then put fertilizer out about 3 weeks afterwards then about 2 weeks after that I planted.....it took me Monday and Tuesday to plant the fescue......believe it or not we got some much needed rain yesterday! I could not of planed it any better!

this is when I got home with the seed and drill

I assume you rented the drill. How much did that cost? Is your truck 1/2 or 3/4 ton. If 1/2, did it pull the drill OK? How did you mark your passes in order not to skip or overlap? What is the HP of your tractor? Did it have plenty of power to pull the drill?

I am thinking of renting a drill like that one. I have never used one before. I want to learn from your experience.

That there is at least a 3/4 ton truck as evidenced by the long bed crew cab configuration not available on 1500 trucks as well as the 8 lug wheels.

TNhobby farmer I rented the drill from the local co-op I think it was either 6-8 dollars per acre (and I used it on 32 acres).....the expensive stuff was having the co-op spray round up the fields then fertilize the fields for me, and also the fescue seed (currently about $60 per 50# bag).....total was about $3600......my truck is a 3500 GMC but there is only about 1500#'s of seed in the back and I'm assuming the drill wieghs between 4-6K......all of this can be towed with a 1/2 ton truck since you won't be going over about 35-40mph towing the drill......however the important thing is not if your truck can tow it but if your truck can stop it (the hills of Tennessee.....it's easy to go up the hill at 35 mph but can you stop coming down the other side)......the drill will turn the ground to the point where it is pretty easy to see where you've been, did I over lap some sure but the point was to get some seed in the ground so I didn't worry about it......my tractor is a 68 hp and it pulled it fine......I bet you could pull it with a much smaller tractor as long as it has to hydraulic hook up (it requires 2 lines)......I was pulling the drill as only 1500rpm's.......this was the first time I've ever used a drill.....it's pretty simple (I did it!).......you pour your seed into the ben, adjust the rate at which you want the seed to come out.... then pull the drill.....there is no pto needed, there is a small wheel that turns on the ground when the drill is put in motion that turns a shaft that releases the seeds......if you have any other questions let me know I'd be glad to help.....one more thing I'm only about 20min from the Tennessee line so the prices I got shouldn't be to different from what your co-op wants.
