To the left of the picture still needs to go back another 100 feet, maybe 1.5 to 2 days in this field.

Mulchers don't stay looking shiny and new for long do they? I love the pictures so keep them coming but what I really want to know is how fast does it cut. I know there will be a good month long learning curve but you should be starting to get an idea of how fast you will be able to clear.

I'm still trying to decide how much faster it is than the ASV. As you can see in the pictures this is big stuff, the biggest I have ever had to mow. Many oak, maple and birch 10-12+ inches, I would not even want to do this with the ASV. The bigger the material the faster the excavator is compared to the ASV. When I hit a section of smaller material in the 4-6 inch range(the average mowing I do) it is fast and without trying the end product is excellent. There are some rocks here too and done the right way I don't seem to hit many, take the top off, mow the the stick down, reach over grab the top and it gets sucked through..done. No back and forth, no wear on the tracks, no getting bounced around, nice and smooth.
This is another wildlife habitat project and I am supposed to leave it a little on the chunky side...it's actually hard to leave messy!

Excavators most definately have a place in our business I have nust not found a job for one yet. Believe me I have tried, I have gotten two or three quotes on Cimaf heads but nothing has seemed to work out yet. The jobs that I am getting are spread out and you have to cover a lot of ground between trees and cover 6-8 acres in a day. Not really suited to escavator work but I will get one in the woods someday. My wife has a problem with me showing up with new toys and no immediate need for them.

Our DNR would have a hay day if we didn't harvest the 10-12 inch stuff, over 8 and they usually want you to harvest it. Your right though they do like the bigger wood. add hills, rock and steep slopes, some rivers and you would have the terrain my is in most of the winter.

I agree I hate to see it just go to waste like that to but biomass has become big down here. It helps with erosion and since it is a habitat job they like the larger pieces for the critters to hang around in. I have an 800 acre habitat job that I will start in a couple of weeks so hopefully I can learn from QD about leaving it large. Seems to go against what every other customer wants.

I should get some picture of the skid road to these fields. It's a mile up some gnarly, muddy terrain. Normally we would harvest what we could for firewood but this one is just too far off the road and not quite enough wood to make it worth the while to bring in a forwarder. The second field is another 1/3 mile farther and today I got a call and they want to do another field even farther out...

I'm using the ASV to get fuel and tools out to the site. I did mow so blueberries with it too...

Is this an older model Daewoo ? In Holland, the Daewoo name has been replaced by the Doosan name, which has taken the construction machinery from the ill Daewoo group. GM has bought the car division, the fridge division and shipyard divisions are still Daewoo i think. ??
