MTD Lawn Tractor (Breaks almost every time I use it!!)
I took these pictures to show someone how I did the install on my front and rear hitches and my Ramsey Winch. Also, he wanted to see a picture of the "Deluxe Canopy."
Thought someone on this site may be interested as well.
I opted for the aftermarket "hunterworks" front and rear hitch because it seems to be sturdier than the JD OEM. Also, they have 2" receivers and the JD is 1 1/4". Of course, 2" is more universally compatible.
Cheers!

Yes, with the Canopy she looks similar to the RTV.
But, a lot less bulky, lower to the ground, easier for entry/egress. (And, I think, better looking!)
I looked at the RTV, but it just didn't feel as sturdy as the HPX.
I'm sure that if I would have gone with the RTV, I would get used to it and love it.
The HPX was just more comfortable to me in every aspect.

Haven't taken her in water yet. I just got her a few weeks ago. Actually, she will primarily be used for the wife's landscaping tasks and general property up-keep. I bought a lot more Gator than I need! But, I subscribe to the philosophy of "overshooting" your needs in anticipation of changing needs in the future.
As far as the JD UTV's, the HPX 4X4 is supposed to be the best off-road capable machine. She has the fully enclosed drive belt, so slippage should not be an issue in water. Air Filter is up by the passenger's seat. Also, independent suspension is nice for off-roading.

I have to agree that I like the looks of the HPX better than the Kubota RTV. However, after owning two previous versions of the JD Gators, both gas and the worksite diesel, I wanted one with suspension and 4X4; i.e. the HPX. The problem was that after I drove the HPX and drove the RTV and crawled all over and under them, I had to switch from being a lifelong JD customer to going with the RTV. The RTV is much sturdier than the HPX. I think it is like 600 pounds or more heavier. And I constantly had trouble with low speed "creeping" with the JD belt driven transmissions. I even contacted JD R&D in Moline, IL and they couldn't offer any help with their "jerking" problem. I hope that JD takes a lesson from Kubota and beefs up their HPX and put in a real transmission that isn't belt driven. I'm good personal friends with my local JD dealer and, admittedly like the looks of the HPX better, but even my JD dealer admitted that the HPX doesn't compete with the RTV for my needs. Come on fellow JD people, put pressure on JD to come up with something that will actually compete with the RTV!
