I put up my 32' Flint & Wahling Star 26 on Christmas day 1985. It was 35 degrees F out when I started and went to 10 when I had to bolt up the fan.
Mine is a 32' tower. Since the center of gravity of such a trangular tower is 10' up, my loader bucket was able to stand it up and shift it to the base mounts. Used a block & tackle to raise up the fan using a pole rope- wrapped to the top irons. That's when the temperature dropped.
This is a water pumper with a pump jack for running it when the mill is turned out. I have a JD hit 'n miss engine on a belt drive that can work the pump on calm days. Its still fun to climb it and take a view of my world from the tower platform. The deer don't look up, the dogs get freaked out, and the neighbors are waiting for me to bungee jump from it.
The other pic is a windmill museum in Indiana I visited a few years ago.
