What a dope I am.

I discovered what I thought was ticks on my pigs. All this time and we have never seen external parasties on our pigs, so I took one look at the little brown bodies and the crab like legs and said, them're some ticks.

The odd thing about it is they never swelled up. A tick swells when it fills with blood, so I'm thinking that the ivomec I'm giving the pigs is keeping the ticks from biting. I'm entitled to my little fantasies. It never occured to me to wonder why if we had such an infestation of ticks, that the pasture dogs didn't have any on them.

So I mentioned it offhandledly in another forum. Got ticks on my pigs. A fellow responded, quite nicely, that I probably had lice. Lice? On my place? This poor man was deluded. Aside from the social stigma that comes with the word 'lice' I was not prepared to admit that I could just possibly not know what the heck I was talking about, so I left him with one final fatal...

'I think I know the difference between LICE and TICKS sir.'

I have since learned that not only were they lice but most likely they came with our romeo wild boar hog that broke in a few months ago, which explains why they just 'suddenly appeared'.

I treated with a pour on and got rid of the ......LICE. Shudder.

Then I pried my foot out of my mouth and went back and aplologized. I don't know how many people tried to tell me that they were lice, but if I owe anybody here and apology as well, consider it given. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
