New Holland TC45DA SS
I'm looking to buy an enclosed race trailer with living quarters in the front and am wondering if my New Holland TC45DA will pick up the pin of the gooseneck. The trailer is a Storm Cyclone 48' with 20' living quarters. The tractor is rated at 2300lbs @ 19" behind the lift arm balls. I don't know the weight of the trailer and neither does the owner. I use the tractor as a spotter around my yard to move trailers. This will be a big part of the purchasing decision.

Take your truck to the scales and weigh it then go get the trailer and run back over the scales putting just the truck on one pad and the trailer on another. The difference on the truck will be the pin weight.

As a normal standard 5th wheel and GN trailers are about 20% of the weight on the pin.

Short of that, you could load up your tractor and take it over the sellers and give it a try. My gut says you will be fine.

Thanks Chris, I'll do that when I go to look over the trailer with a fine tooth comb. The owner said I could even tow it with his truck to try out towing it.

I saw the ad which stated 3 axle (assuming 7000#) with 20' of LQ and 28' of garage. It had an onboard Onan and 15 gallon fuel tank, 100 gallon water tank, 50 gallon grey water tank, 50 gallon blackwater tank, dual 30# propane tanks, lots of cabinets, etc. Even an empty weight of 10,000# balanced would put you at 2,000# pin (20%). All is up front so without a car to balance the load it will be tongue heavy. Loaded would be 21,000# GVWR (4,200# pin).

As Chris suggested I would try it first. I think it will be at the capacity or more probably above the tractor's ability. You may be able to lift it and go straight, but moving and turning will cause something to twist or break.

Pic of trailer in question. It's getting buffed, new reflective tape, and led lights put on.

That is a nice trailer. It will look good behind that truck of yours.

That will be a heck of nice trailer if it's the same ad I read. You could almost gut the extras and sell them for the price (generator, winch, hydraulic jacks, rear cabinets, etc.) Don't forget to check the roof seams.

Thanks Chris! The trailer was actually not for sale. The guy that owns it put lockers and gears in my Jeep and I saw it in his shop. I told him how much I liked it and he said he would entertain the thought of selling it and going to a diesel pusher with enclosed trailer.
