Here's a couple of pictures of my pinestraw rake. This is a good tool to have for several things such as smoothing over seeds and finish smoothing. I bought this Leinbach from ETA before they made their own, it works well but I would recommend the new rake with easily replaceable tines.

jenkinsph, looks like it does a nice job. Do any of you use your pinestraw rake to thatch and how does it work concerning that task?

Thanks for the info, guys.
I'm also considering this type of rake: 3 Point D Thatcher | eBay
I'm mainly interested in using either type of rake for lawn dethatching as well as cleanup of leaves, storm debris etc. Do you feel that this one with it's shorter teeth would do okay? I realize that the longer teeth are needed for pine straw raking.
The price of the thatcher type rake with it's short teeth is quite a bit less but I don't want to let that be the determining factor.

I actually sent that company an email this morning with a question about that very same rake. For what I want to do I may be better off with a drag harrow though.

I wonder why Leinbach/EverythingAttachments wind their coil tines backwards. There must be reason for it but I was always told that torsion springs are better used with the force trying to wind rather than unwind the coil. I has to do with the preload induced in the coil when winding providing more strength against further bending.
Thanks, jenkinsph, for posting the great application shots.

I think flexing is more important and the goal here my rake is about three years old now and the tines are close to being all straight without any of them out of alignment, They do need to flex easily enough to ride over obstacles such as stumps and large rocks, and so far no problems with that.

About dethatching, I would say it gives fair results but is not as agressive as a purpose built dethatcher. Still I just ran the rake around my lawn a couple of passes and will vacuum up all the loose stuff in the morning before fertilizing. Time to purty up the lawn.:D

The rake works as advertised but the straw needs to be reactively clean otherwise the rake gas a tendency to rides over some limbs which dumps the straw requiring multiple passes.I might have been better getting a landscaprake considering the states of my lanes.
Thanks

When I have that problem or I am using it to dethatch I hang two of the 42# front weights on the rake which is enough to hold it down.

That looks a lot like the antique hay rakes that can occasionally be found around the country.

Or, here's one that appears to be adapted for use on a tractor.

There may be some benefit of the large arcing tines that would tend to be bent forward, rather than vertical at the bottom.
