I'm not sure how describe the sound...but it sound to some extent the my engine has a slight ping to it at higher rpm's. Loading the engine doesn't seem to matter one way or the other. I'm wondering if it could be my fuel. I've only got about 25 hrs on it and I've just noticed it in the last few hrs. I'm running #2 dyed off road fuel, that's what the manual recomends. Should I try some additive or something or maybe go to 50/50 mix of on/off road. I could just be me too..this is my first diesel but I have run heavy equipment before. I don't think it's detonation as I'm running really cool (I watch that gauge like a hawk!) but don't now quite how to tell for sure./w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif

Oh...It's my Bx 2200.(guess that would help!)

I've not heard that on my BX2200. It has 62 hours on it and I always add STP Diesel treatment -- get it at Wal-Mart. When I purchased my NH 1715 the dealer who sold it always recommended treating the fuel -- with NH brand treatment -- of course...

Sold the 1715 because I down sized property and bought the BX2200 but continued the fuel treatment.

I don't think it could be ping/detonation, that's how diesel's operate, and why they are built much heavier than gasoline engines. Without detonation, the engine wouldn't run...

I run my BX2200 pretty hard cutting heavy/tall grass, and it gets pretty warm as the radiator plugs up with stuff, (I clean it out when temps get to 12:00 on the guage). Not quite sure what you are hearing... are you sure it's coming from the engine?

Well good news. I stopped at a kubtoa dealer today (not mine cause I was out of town) and talked with one of the mechanics. I described the noise, he thought it was unusal, but said it didn't sound serious. We started up another bx and it was quiet. In any case we deduced it might be some moisture in the fuel...between washing and just plain humid weather. I bought some power source additvie...gave her a swig and voila! It did the trick..ran it for 2 min and thats all it took; has been quiet since. whew!/w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif

Kenny,

I have a MB deisel too, and this noise is the injectors firing, (almost sounds like engine knock at idle) and an old diesel mech told me to pour in a bottle of auto transmission fluid at the next fill up and the noise went away.

I have used diesel conditioner too (more so in winter), and this clears it up as well. This is not a problem and is a normal noise in diesels.
